OSSLT
English Support of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test
To earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), all students must fulfill the literacy graduation requirement outlined in the Ontario Secondary Schools, Grades 9 to 12: Program and Diploma Requirements, 1999 (OSS). Most students meet this requirement by successfully completing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) or the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC).
We offer a preparation class for the Ontario Literacy Test for all students who have completed Grade 9. This requirement is based on the reading and writing expectations throughout the Ontario curriculum up to Grade 9. Its purpose is to ensure that students possess the necessary reading and writing skills for success in school and daily life.
Community Involvement Activities
All students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of unpaid community involvement activities before graduating from high school. This requirement aims to encourage students to develop an awareness and understanding of civic responsibility and their role in supporting and strengthening their communities.
By joining our “Vision in Action” program, we will help students choose their community involvement activities based on guidelines provided by the Trenton Collegiate Institute administration. Students, in collaboration with their parents, guardians, and school administration, will select activities that align with their interests and goals. Students are responsible for fulfilling this requirement on their own time and for keeping a record of their activities on a form supplied by the school. Completed hours must be documented and submitted to the school by the student. The school administration will offer ongoing assistance and support throughout this process.
